In the Pink’ers’

Project two….
This one I decided was going to be small, mainly because I had this small 5×7 mat I wanted to use. Again the photo reference was from my phone of a Tea Rose from my garden, it was a burst of yellow, white and pink. I used the Canson again but I used a buff colour this time because of the yellows in the Rose, but wished that I had used white.

And again I was pleasantly surprised at how it came out. I should have made the image smaller for the mat as you cannot see it all once behind it but all in all not a bad image, I am happy with it. I still have lots to learn but happy is always a good thing.

Something I noticed after both projects were finished they were both Pink! Not a colour I used to like but since becoming a breast cancer survivor I kind of lean towards it now unconsciously. Going back and looking at much of what I have been creating lately its all a bit pinkish. Maybe that’s it; maybe I should be creating Pink images, images for those of us that are now Pinker’s!

I think I like that word, #Pinker’s!

Fort Foster

JimsCairn
Every year we make a day trip up to Maine to Ft. Foster. It’s one of the few places where there are no crazy beach dwellers, tourists crowding every spot plus you can bring your dog. Our dog loves to go here, she’s not very fond of the water but having a whole day outside with family is a big deal. Every year we get her into the water a bit more.

Last summer she freaked out when she saw a lab go in for a swim. Poor thing was beside herself, what would possess a dog to get in that wet stuff. She cried until the lab came out. On the plus side she gave a try at getting in to save the other dog she was so worried about it.
We always stop at subway and get lunches for later. It’s like a family tradition now.

I think the best part for me is how calm and relaxed I feel near the water. I think it’s because I spent so much time near the ocean growing up. We would spend summers in Jaywick, Clacton and sometimes Brighton.

Being up on the cliff looking out at the water the warm breeze blowing it always inspires me to get out the sketch book (which I carry everywhere) and make lots of quick sketches of the water, boats and my favourite the rocks. The colours that come off the rocks from the water and the sun is sometimes breathtaking.

So looking forward to the weather getting warmer so we can head back up to Maine for another day of water sun and relaxing with the sketch book.

Amusement Park Collage

I’ve been quite under the weather lately. Sore throat, ears, sinus and a cough which I think I’ve managed to bruise something doing. Instead of getting better I’ve gotten worse, but think I am finally on mend.

In effort to feel a bit more cheery I looked at some of the photos from my holiday to Florida at the end of last year. The trips to amusement parks in particular. Then it hit me how would those parks look combined, take pictures of the parks and put them all together as one.

So I took some of the photos from Sea World, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Magic Kingdom I then took sections of each of the photos and lay them on top of each other in photoshop.

Using photoshop (one of my favourite pieces of software) and my Intuos I carefully blended the photos together using layer masks. I moved them around and tried different placements for each piece. I love the way the turrets come out of the rocks and waterfall. This gave me my own magical kingdom. A place that’s fantasy and where animals can just wander freely.

The holiday is over

I just got back from my yearly trip to Florida. I look forward to this every year, I knew this one would be a bit different, so wasn’t as excited as I usually am – but it was still a good one.

I soo needed this break to recharge my batteries. It’s been a tough year both personally and professionally. The paying job is very stressful and wears me down. This causes a lack of creativity which is what keeps me sane.

The 7 days of warm sun on my face and being able to sit outside on the patio was just wonderful. I did take my sketch book everywhere I went but I didn’t sketch, though I did take lots of photos. I found my mind wandering to all sorts of creative projects/ideas. A free mind.

I returned feeling refreshed and stress free with the ideas firmly in place. I still had a few more days off before having to go back ‘there’ so have been able to sort the photos into idea folders for both digital collages and sketches.

My favourite photo subjects are animals and nature. I got some good shots. To stave of the cold of the northeast and the stress of that place I am getting some of my best photos printed and will spend my lunch hour sketching. These are a few I liked, the colour of the flamingo and plant and the way this seal was watching and chasing that bird made me laugh.

Time Flies – Whoosh!

skull-shirt-image
I realized this morning that summer and fall have gone and we are coming into winter, where did the time go. Time just flies by, what is it that we really do with our time.

I have been working both a FT & PT job for years now, this cuts into creative time. So I bit bullet and quit the PT, yes panic attacks have insued over where the money is coming from to keep afloat, but I am determined. I am giving myself one year to get my Facebook fan page and blog moving, not to mention all the other plans I have for creating & selling my art.

Earlier in the summer I stole a portion of my bedroom for the ‘studio’ which was hard to do as I wanted that clutter free relax zone. So I now have this area that is set up for me to work, all my supplies some inspirational art from artists I enjoy & all infront of a window for light in preparation for my year. Poor space, its been sitting alone since I created it, whoosh….there goes that time flying by again!

I have always wanted to try and build a freelance business and sell both traditional and digital art. So I thought join some of those sites where you can sell your art, why not! I have only joined one as I wanted to see how it all works, I went for RedBubble. My first foray was well, less than great. The design was solid but on a Tshirt haha, just didnt look right…..back to the drawing board, or is that digital board. All my time has been on the computer creating digital work and uploading for sale. Which would be great if I sold anything. Whoosh!

So yesterday I created another digital piece and uploaded, lets see how this one works. The kids think it looks good. I did it as Tshirt and iPhone case http://www.redbubble.com/people/suisiadh-3gaels/works/11045114-rainbow-skull?p=iphone-case

Time has flown by and now its almost the end of this year, leaving me 10 Months. I have to be more conscious of what I am doing, create a daily to do, dedicate each evening to one thing. Monday-Blog, Tuesday-? and so on….whoosh whoosh, darn I just lost another 20 minutes staring at the TV.
